Re: Headers!!!!
I went with a set of hedmans. I replaced a set of edelbrocks becaused they had cracked and were ticking. Out of the box, the headmans had far worse issues than the cracked edelbrocks. Both collectors were not welded properly with leaks so big you could see light through them. also where the primary tubes are welded to the head flange, there were two leaks there as well. I sent them back and went with custom headers.
I've been through three sets of headers. I love headers. But if i had it to over again i would go with the larger diameter ram horn manifolds. Regardless of whether you go with headers or manifolds you need to make sure that the engine torquing and vibration is isolated from the frame twisting and vibration. Flex pipes and good exhaust hangers isolate the two. |

Re: Headers!!!!
I have Headman Torque Steps on my '72 K2500 that I bolted on when I installed the engine in '04 and haven't given another thought. I had the flat black ceramic done on them locally. They sit above the bottom of the frame on my 4wd. I have a set of the ceramic Elites that were for another truck but will end up being the replacement for these whenever I rebuild/replace the motor again.

Re: Headers!!!!
Good eye! Yes that is a fully restored Silver Eagle. It belongs to my buddy and everything else you see. He has graciously let me have full run of his shop.

Re: Headers!!!!
I'm using the Hedman HTC-Coated Stainless Steel street Hedders, Model # 62096.
Best Hedder you can buy and will last for years.

Re: Headers!!!!
Hedman has been around forever. If there quality and products weren't "quality" they wouldn't be around. I'd say go for it. Friends of mine both have elites on there 390 fords, great looking headers but there thermal coating looks like silver paint to me. I'd buy raw steel and have them coated IMO

Re: Headers!!!!
Coating on the Sanderson is very nice. We'll see how it looks once I heat them up.

Re: Headers!!!!
It's been about 7-8 years now, but I had Hedman Elite Headers on my 72 C20. The driver side was tight and I notched the frame slightly to clear them. I was running a set of nicely ported #186 cylinder heads which used the 13/16th plugs. It was tough getting the #5 and #7 plugs in, especially the 5. When I switched to a set of dart heads with the 5/8 plugs it was a little better.
I had much better luck with the hedman elite 1 3/4" headers I ran on my big block 65 Chevelle. I haven't installed them yet, but I have a set of 1 3/4" hedman LS1 Swap headers for my 57 chevy with the dark horse black HTC coating. They are absolutely beautifully made, but I think they are the husler line.

I have drag pipes on my Harley that are made the same way. They're 2" pipes, but start at the head with 1 3/4",which is stock size. When it gets dyno tuned I get told I should get baffles to improve bottom end. Then they run it and end up saying,"No baffles needed. Your numbers are great!"

Re: Headers!!!!
I didn't give any personal experience with Elites, but offered info for the sake of comparison under the Headman name. If you're dead set on Elites I guess just buy them. I posted my extremely good real world experience with the Tork Steps. They may not be built as heavy as the Elites, but doesn't appear to matter, going by my 9 trouble-free year experience. If you want to take care of your own coating I think these are the way to go for a street application in a truck. The name says it all. Guys who bash headers claim they rib low end torque, not that I've noticed anything significant. These are made to give more low end torque than other headers. I'm real happy with mine and wish I had ordered another set, rather than Elites, but just went with choosing from Summit's limited offering. But,my seat of the pants already told me that
