Np205 supporting opinions - manual transmission
It seems there are for main opinions when it comes to supporting a Np205 behind a manual transmission. What is the best way to not break the adaptor?
Please fill out the poll. 1. factory - cushioned side mount. 2. No support - hangs from transmission adaptor. 3. Mounted rigid to frame or aftermarket crossmember. 4. Aftermarket cushioned mount to frame or aftermarket crossmember. I have a 67 k20 with a sm465 / np205. My adaptor was broken when I got it and had no support. I do not want it to break again. Re: Np205 supporting opinions - manual transmission
Haha, true.
All I can say is that if you want to rigidly mount/constrain the powertrain to the frame, then make sure the frame doesn't bend or twist.

Re: Np205 supporting opinions - manual transmission
Thank you for your replies.
Do peoples opinions vary with their use, ie, on road versus off road? What types of factory mounts existed and in what years. Did square bodies come without a side mount? Was their a torsion bar mount in newer models that went up to the engine mount from the side of the transfer case? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Np205 supporting opinions - manual transmission
My old 76 Blazer had 2 bolts on the bottom of the adapter to the crossmember. No other bracing. Never broke the mount or adapter. Truck had a 400+ HP sb400 hooked to a 4spd. Bent the frame at the front from torque and tore up axles/driveshafts. No transfer case issues. Even bent the floor board with the shifter from the engine torqueing over!.

Re: Np205 supporting opinions - manual transmission
About half way down this page there are two pictures of a mount that goes up to the engine mount. Does this style work well? What did they come on? How did they mount to the engine mount?

Re: Np205 supporting opinions - manual transmission
those go up to a bellhousing bolt. ive seen them on my square bodies mostly the aluminum tcase years. . you gotta make sure your tcase has the holes drilled and tapped on the sides. it helps from bottoming out the driveshaft and breaking the tcase off. they rarely seem to make it back on ive noticed.
