K5 Drivers Seat Too Close!

Does anyone out there hava a clever way to move the drivers seat on a 1972 K5 a little further back??? With the seat as far back as it will go, there is about another 3 inches of clearence before it would hit the cargo area floor.

Hope you get a good answer. I'm 6'5" and switching to a smaller steering wheel helped but a little more room would be nice.

Yeah, no kidding! I'm just 5'10", 190 lbs. Still too close to the wheel. I also switched to a 13" steering wheel, helps a little but not nearly enough to stretch my legs. For the life of me, I canot understand why they kept it from going all the way back.

They don't go back all the way because the seats and seat tracks are modeled from the trucks. The buckets only go back far enough so that the top of the seat rests against the truck cab just under the window.

So you could make your own brackets to move the seat back further, or use different seats.

I had the same problem along with not having the proper seat holes in the floor pan so I drilled out the rivets between seat track and the bracket to floor and made some new brackets to extend the track back as far as it could go .It was a little more work then I planned but at least have the legroom now. The rivets that fasten the brackets to the seat track are pretty big and very hard to set .I had to do it in an hydraulic press and made a rivet snap to seat them .

That helps a lot. Mine doesn't have an extra set of holes (I'm assuming he's talking about extra holes in the floor) but I'd bet it wouldn't be hard to add and re-inforce some a little further back. The front adapter mounts should be relatively easy too. Thanks for the link!!

On my 68 Firebird I bought a set of 'seat extenders'. They were made off some "original" dealer installed ones by a (firebird) forum, member.

They just bolt to the floor using original holes and relocate the seat back 2". Pretty simple design. I could barely get under the steering wheel and didn't have tilt and didn't want to change from original wheel. I ended up putting them under the carpet and can't tell they are there. This is a 10yr old pic but all I had.

I just had the same thing done with my seats at the hot rod shop ( Seat Extenders) While they were apart i also had him cut the seat frame and lay the backrest back a few more degrees so it wasn't so straight up and down
