Will truck start w/out gauge cluster plugged in???

Probably stupid ??? But will my 72 start without the gauge cluster plugged in???? I'm trying to fix a wiring problem between my junction box on the passenger fender and the fuse box. Also replacing some fuse links. I have my dash torn apart but just want to see if I fixed my start problem with my wires. I don't know if the gauge cluster completes and circuits in regards to starting...

I don't know if it will start are not, it may start without it but make sure you have the oil line plugged off are you will pump oil out into the floor. Don't ask me how I know this.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Will truck start w/out gauge cluster plugged in???

I drove my 69 15 miles without the gauge panel plugged in, it also had no windshield, door glass, rear window, grill, bumpers, etc. it ran just fine! I also drove my 72 in and out of my shop without the same. Yours should run fine without the gauges

Mine started up just fine. I capped off the oil line right before I started it. Phew!

I've never tried with the oil line open but I used to work with a guy that said,
"You'd be surprised how much oil can come out of that line in a short amount of time."

He wasn't kidding!
The grey carpet is long gone now but you can see the oil stain.

Re: Will truck start w/out gauge cluster plugged in???

Definitely find a secure way to plug the oil line and you can drive all day long without the cluster. Dont recommend it since if anything goes wrong at all with the oil pump, or timing/distributor, or battery.......you wont know until its done its damage or left you stranded on the side of the road.
I drove my home right after installing my new Vortec (which has all electronic sending units now) and put in my new Dakota Digital Dash.

Re: Will truck start w/out gauge cluster plugged in???

just a couple months ago I ran into the same thing, my truck started with no problems without the gauges hooked up but I forgot to plug the line for the oil gauge and well of course oil on the carpet, luckily I have black carpet
