Re: air over leaf opinion
flip, drop shackles and running just the main leaf with the next longest leaf should get your axel into the frame. then i guess you could run bags set up like helper bags

Re: air over leaf opinion
You know ridetech and porterbuilt both have rear air bag kits that don't make you cut up the bed.Take a look at them http://www.ridetech.com/store/1973-1...ar-system.html and http://www.azproperformance.com/Port...eluxe-Kit.html

Re: air over leaf opinion
I would worry about axle wrap with 2 leaves. I would use a pair of links added to keep the axle where it should be.

Re: air over leaf opinion
Unless your running 400+ HP its not an issue. I had that set up on my 77 at one time with a Ramjet 350 and had no axle wrap issues. I could break the tires loose and chirp in second with no concern.

Re: air over leaf opinion
I had a '97 4dr Tahoe set up that way years ago. Me & my late wife used to run autocross so it had to be able to still tow the flatbed & Camaro on it.
I bought a set of AirLift bags (nothing existed for the Tahoe so i had to adapt something) & pulled leafs to drop the Tahoe but used the bags as the actual suspension/lift. No notch, no drop shackles. no drop hangers. Worked out great. Just had to add air when I towed & let air out when I didn't tow.

Re: air over leaf opinion
I would think ladder bars would work. However I was thinking about bars like on a 4 link. Mounted on the opposite side of the axle. As in if you have the springs under the axle, mount the bars above the axle, with the mount holes the same distance apart, front and back. Just my $0.02.

Re: air over leaf opinion
I done the bag over leaf set up using a airlift 5000# bag set. I done it for hauling since a flip kit and 2 inch drop axles put the axle right under the frame even with the bump stops removed. btw, if you intend to run the bags aired up more than an 1-1.5 inched, you will need a pan hard bar

Re: air over leaf opinion
the reason I ran them on the axle was the u bolts would take the complete load if I put the bags on the leaf springs. my way, the axle bear the weight.
At first I used the valves and put them in the rear bumper. then I done a compressor uder the hood and the control in the cab: The reason for the pan hard bar is when the bags are all the way up, the rear end swayed and the truck felt like the back end was on ice |

Re: air over leaf opinion
Depends on what you are looking for, I wasnt really too concerned about laying frame so it got me a little lower, and it rode great. I did have a small hole cut in the bed to get the rear down another 1-2" though.
