Camshaft for 305
I want to put a small cam in my 305 its stock except for headers and exhaust. I believe it's a flat tappet motor. I don't want to have a radical cam just a decent one to have a semi-noticeable lope.
All help is appreciated thanks guys!!

Re: Camshaft for 305
how fresh is the bottom end, and what is it going to be used for (street, strip)
is a realistic starting point. Cam change isn't a huge job, but it sure can be the start to one once you get started. Most of the cam companies have a tech guy to answer questions on their products, and what works best with your set up. good luck with your project. A cam lobe separation of 110 deg. vs. 112 deg. will make for a more radical sounding cam, but can come with less available vacuum for brakes, etc. |

Re: Camshaft for 305
thanks! it's a "rebuilt" 305 I'm lead to believe the PO just redid all the gaskets not a full rebuild on it, and it's going to be more of a street truck with 1 or 2 times on the strip just for kicks and grins.

Re: Camshaft for 305
Dude, you want a stock cam JK
If you want to spice it up I put a Summit 1103 in my truck. It's got a nice lope but it doesn't kick in till 2k. I don't know how it would act on a 305. You might want to check out the Summit 1102 (or cams with similar specs). Its one step down from mine. It will probably kick in a little lower as well. Again, I don't know how it would act in a 305 but the 1102 is supposed to be a good cam to spice up a stock 350.

Re: Camshaft for 305
Yeah I'd check into the 1102. It's like 50$ at summit which aint bad. Just throw in a set of lifters. Did a little googling around and that seems to also be the consensus from other sites.

Re: Camshaft for 305
I've done a nasty cam on a 305. Afte 350hp these motors struggle at an increasing rate so you really have to fight them
Call the comp cams cam hotline. They will size a cam perfect for you and future mods. If you don't think the cam is quite big enough add higher lift rockers and that makes the cam seem bigger to the motor. Tell them that may be an option your doing As cam size has to be followed with the right size springs to follow it. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Camshaft for 305
Okay, so I wanted to ask a question. I've been doing some reading as for right now I'm not too worried on the performance end but if I do gain some HP that'd be awesome too. I'm thinking of putting a thumpr cam in my 305, will it fit with stock internals, of course I know I would have to change the lifters?
here's the link for the specs. http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=107&sb=0
