350 build

i pulled the 350 out of my 80 1 ton silverado. i want to build it up a little bit headers intake heads cam timeing chain and gear. i have a holley 600 cfm that needs to be rebuilt. the truck has a 400 turbo trans in it. i want to spend 1500 to 2000. any ideas on what i could do or what you guys have liked with your builds.

Vortec heads from Summit, or if your adventurous get a Vortec 350 as your starter. It comes stock with the heads, and a roller cam. So a good balance job, and a decent cam it would be a power house for DD or work. Plus the 1 piece seal is better.

If I do a sbc in my truck a Vortec or the newish LT1 will by my choices.

you mention adding items to the top-end, are you also planning to go through the bottom as well? Can't go wrong with Vortec heads, but be prepared to spend what you have proposed in your budget. If you plan on running more than 460 lift, look for the heads that have been machined for that, if not stock are still great.
