Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

Does anyone know if there is a pre-made kit out there somewhere for a 4 wheel disc conversion on our trucks? Or is it pretty much custom bends I see in my future ? (just need the hard lines)

I'd say the rear will have to be custom.
Mainly because of the location you make for your "rubber to steel" line connection.

Keith, .. I'm not sure on the booster either.. Do I need it?

Wilwood MC going on it, 1.25 bore. (I think..) Is the big one 1 1/8 ? I got the biggest one.. I just haven't looked at it in a while.

If I pull the booster, I can always use it on my 68. Will I really need the booster on this truck? And if not, does the Wilwood MC just bolt to the firewall?

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

The master will bolt to either, but you can not use anything larger then a 1" bore for manual brakes. The larger master will be very difficult if not almost impossible to push without a booster to assist.

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

CC,

After a whole lot of trouble, I bought a prebent line kit from Inline Tube.

I skipped the MC to prop lines, and specified 3/16" line for the rear lines with 3/8 tube nuts for all.

This left me with only the rear axle lines & chassis to MC lines I had to do myself.

Run the booster.
You will like the brake pedal feel.
I have one on my blazer and it stops really well.
Like others have said,... 1" or smaller bore for manual brakes.

Do you need new (different) rear hard lines with the kit you bought on eBay? Sorry for the hijack...

Check out POL (performanceonline.com). I'm pretty sure they have the pre-made kits for a disc/disc set-up.

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

<edit>

thinking this is just the front, .. but it looks like they do offer the front-to-rear lines as well as the rear kit. I emailed them asking about the Wilwood MC, and Prop with OEM style booster and see if maybe they could just put together a whole kit for me.

I'll let you know what they say. If they can do it, I'll just pay for it rather than buying a quality line bender and 500ft of stainless line that's bent wrong and thrown in the corner of my garage. .. and/or pay someone to bend them for me. I know it's probably not hard to make them up but I've just never done it and the last thing I want is the brakes to fail.

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

With your attention to detail and the quality of this build,... I see no reason why you can't bend up your own lines.
I really enjoy the challange of building and flaring lines.
I would consider running steel lines and using double flares for your first attemp.
I've never done stainless, but I'm sure it is much harder.

If you want to give it a try I'll mail you my benders.

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

After fighting with stainless lines for my build, I would use the Nickel/copper alloy stuff that is avalable now. I would buy a 50' coil & some tube nuts and build my own.

It would have allowed me to eliminate some of the unions in my lines & the alloy line is supposed to be easier to work with than mild steel lines.

3/16, 1/4 .. what's better or would there be that much of a difference?

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

So, I called POL to see if the kit I posted earlier would be an option for my setup. The guy on the line had absolutely NO CLUE what I was even asking about, gave me a price $70 cheaper than the kit they had online and basically told me to go to their website, click on the make of my vehicle and click on brakes, and well .. There you go. Sarcastic attitude is an understatement.

I have never purchased anything from POL before, and I can tell you with 100% certainty I will never consider them again.

I'll make up my own .. WOW. I have never been treated that way. I have been restoring cars for 25yrs.. geesh.

Re: Brake lines for disc/disc C10 ?

Chad on mine I just bought a roll of 50' 3/16" steel line with fittings and bent up my own. I had never done it before and was easier than I thought it would be. They aren't as nice as ones I've seen done by N2billet or lolife99 but works for me. You should give it a try.
