Rear End Swap Questions
I have an 86 Silverado SWB & 86 C10 Custom Deluxe SWB. I'm fixing up the Silverado and using the C10 for parts. The C10 has a posi rear end and the Silverado has a limited slip. I'm wanting to swap the rear ends so the Silverado has the posi. So my question is:
Should the C10's posi bolt right up to my Silverado? and vice verse? Thank You!!

Re: Rear End Swap Questions
If you a talking about factory original parts, they are both the same.
They are Eaton Gov-loc units, referred to by GM as the option code G80. "Posi-traction" is just Chevrolet's term for a clutch-type limited slip differential, the are the same thing. But, a Gov-loc is not as simple as that. They are a "self adjusting" unit that is supposed to be an up-grade to the original.......not so in the opinion of most. Either way, unless it has been modified by a previous owner, neither truck has a traditional Posi-traction in it.

Re: Rear End Swap Questions
So can you please tell me what I need to look for before I do the swap to at least ensure that it will go smoothly. Thank You.

Re: Rear End Swap Questions
I'd start by pulling the covers and comparing them. Like Longhair says, they are most likely the same.

Re: Rear End Swap Questions
Unless you are swapping for a gear ratio change, which you haven't mentioned, there is no point.....everything is the same.
If this is for a gear ratio change, swap the entire housing, not the internals.
