EGR block off
on the 5.3 intake manifold, what are you using to block off the EGR without it leaking? I don't want to spend $30 bucks for a block off plate.

Re: EGR block off
I used GM Part #12558346 for mine, but I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere online. Maybe the dealer can still get it. I also remember a 1 3/8" freeze plug is an option as well.

Re: EGR block off
I see a lot of guys using the 1 3/8 freeze plug, but am curious as to how one would go about installing, or fastening it in to stay? just silicone it?

Re: EGR block off
I went with the freeze plug. It is a Dorman brand and the part number is 555-093.1. It cost me a total of 0.99 cents plus tax. the hole to fill for the EGR is 1.375-inches and the size of the plug is 1.379-inches. I just pushed it in there and tapped it a bit with a tiny hammer.

Re: EGR block off
I got rid of the exhaust manifolds and replaced with long tube headers. That solves that problem.
OR You can simply get a flat piece of steel and cut it to the size of the port, and drill two holes, make sure you use the gasket. Ebay also has people selling egr block off kits if you're down to spend some money (not worth it to me). Good luck with your project. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: EGR block off
You can take the wires out, but your computer will need the codes deleted so it doesn't throw an engine code. I'm sending my computer to Brendan at lt1swap.com.

Re: EGR block off
I used a rubber freeze plug but was afraid it would eventually pop out so I once it was flush I used a fender washer on the bolt hole above it to retain the plug as added insurance.

Re: EGR block off
Thanks. I made it with a cardboard box. Wrapped it in saran wrap and glassed it, then cut a hole to fit a K&N I had laying around and pulled out the box. The lid is phenolic but could be wood, cut and routered to fit the panel filter. I tacked 1/4-20 nuts to fender washers and gorilla glued them to the inside for the bolts on top. The cage that holds it is 1/2 square tubing bolted to the fuel rails. Probably could have just went with a cone but I already had the stuff to make it and this thing gets a ton of looks anywhere I pop the hood.
