Re: how to test oil pressure sender and gauge

On finding the wire for the dash gauge, was it normally close to the O2 sensor wire? That is the only connection i can find. Right now, this is the only wire i havent accounted for.

Will readily admit colors aren't my strong suit. Lol. Would you consider the wire pictured to be tan?

Re: how to test oil pressure sender and gauge

Haven't checked it. It's way too short to reach the alternator. It's right next to the o2 sensor wire which goes to basically the exact right spot. The orange is definitely brighter. The other sensor has an orange wire which is much brighter and a definite orange color. I honestly have no clue though.

Re: how to test oil pressure sender and gauge

No it's an 87. The wire I showed runs straight to the sender. It's a single wire that is in the main harness loom.

Re: how to test oil pressure sender and gauge

ok that explains it
just reread I thought it mentions for an 80
but I see now it is an 87
one thing with some the oil pressure is wired to the fuel pump
so no oil,no run

Re: how to test oil pressure sender and gauge

Yep. My truck has 2 oil pressure sensors. One senses pressure and then kicks on the fuel pumps. The second reads the pressure and sends to the gauge.

The oil/fuel sensor is located behind the distributor. The one for the gauge readout needs to mount above the oil filter.
