Front Suspension/Brake Options
I have a 2wd 1970 Chevy with 6 lug suspension. I was planning to change to 5 -lug with front discs off a 72 parts truck. Do i have any options to stay with 6 lug bolt pattern, have disc brakes and use drop spindles? Eventually I will bag the front. Thanks

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
Easy. Order a pair of 6 lug rotors from Early Classic Enterprises or CPP or similar. Then bolt them on along with all of the rest of the 72 parts you already have. They bolt directly in place of the stock 72 five lug rotors with the same bearings, brakes and spindles.
Then, in the future, you can order a pair of 72 model drop spindles and your air bags or whatever you desire. |

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
Yes exactly what TX said. Then you can easily change to 5 bolt later on if you want to.

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
Thanks for the confirmation! I thought it might be possible.
I just found this drum to disc conversion info and I'm printing it off to keep on hand. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...68&postcount=4

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
If you do use the 72 parts,... use all of it.
(everything from the a-arms out, including all the steering linkage) Otherwise just buy 63-70 disc brake drop spindles (ECE, CPP, McGaughy's, Belltech all sell them),...and bolt them directly to your '70. Use the 6-lug conversion rotors,... and new calipers and bearings from your local auto parts store. Really no need to use 71-72 parts anymore. Especially since you want drop spindles.

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
Thanks Keith. My dads gonna love your write up on the drum to disc conversion. He several vehicles (1965 suburban, 1964 swb, 71 swb, 72 blazer) and this will help.
What are you running on up your suburban on the front? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
Biggest issue you are going to run into is wheels if you chose to customize. 6 lug is limited or very expensive. At least a 5x5 5-bolt is a lot easier and less money to bling them up. And guys correct me if I am wrong, but arent the 6 bolt rotors REAL pricey?

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
I meant the truck in your profile pic ... I'm not sure why I thought it was a suburban. Oops

Re: Front Suspension/Brake Options
Cpp has 6 lug rotors for $129.
Will late model silverado rims fit old 6 lug trucks? Posted via Mobile Device

They would have to be "opened up", to work. Or you could run spacers.
