4 speed or auto?
Just getting ready to get my 71 K20 rolling again, and can't decide if i want to keep the 4 speed/205 set up or go with a auto/205. I will use it to run back and forth to work and around town, and do the majority of my hauling with it to keep the new truck in good shape. I will also use it on the farm (but have another truck for my feed truck).
I guess that i have never owned/worked on a 4 speed and have 3 automatics, which i understand. What do you guys think thanks David

4 speed!
well, unless you have a physical disability, or you HATE driving one. myself, i love manual trannies. (burnouts w/o line loc!) plus, its original to the truck. just my 2 cents

If you already have 3 autos, I say leave it manual. I prefer 'original' also. But if its driven a lot in stop-and-go traffic, manuals get tiring after a while. I know...........

I had a 3-on-the-tree in my 4x4. THE BEST thing I ever did to it to date is make it a th350 auto. I could see having a manual in a 2wd "toy" truck but if you do anything with your truck, and it sounds like you do, I'd go auto.

I'm lazy and prefer automatics. The only thing keeping me from converting my Comet to an auto was the stunning rarity of the 4-speed it currently has. But my truck and the grocery-getter are both auto's.

I think Keep it Manual probably better if you intend to work the truck and I like to see things stay original too...

Depends really on how it's gonna be driven most of the time. Mine's an auto because that's what I found when I was shopping for a truck, but in many cases I would prefer the control of a manual.
If you use it around town and on short trips a lot, to me an auto makes more sense - gas it & go, and you won't be replacing clutches! Glad I could help clear this up!

I do lots of "things" with my truck all the time, from driving it everyday to hauling, towing, pulling, and pushing. I like the control the manual gives me, and I like the gear range the granny low provides.

I'm a automatic fan, but i am really lazy
Those truck 4-speeds are virtuially bullet proof....but it takes forever to shift them. The granny gear is also nice for pulling a massive load. I say if it already has a 4-spd, leave it alone. 4-spds are cool enough that i wouldn't bother to convert....if it was a 3spd on the collumn i would rip it out though
