New tires for 72?

Hey guys, im in need of new tires for my 72 shortbed step. Probably gonna sell my rallys and go with somethin different. I want some tall and skinny ones like the picture, I love that look. Its stock height and all but I dont know what sizes will fit it without rubbing. Any advice on the good quality ones? Thanks guys..

With the truck at stock height almost any tire (with in reason) will fit. There is a lot of room in the stock fenderwells of these trucks.

I dont know much about the 4x4s. Had a blazer lifted with 33s a while back. Its a 2wd truck if it helps, will say 33s fit? I liked the look of the 33s my blazer had.

You can get 235/85-16s with good traction tread.... narrow, and about 32" tall.

Less common to find bias-ply tires like in your picture.

Your truck is a half ton, right?
The example you have pictured is a 3/4 ton.
It'll be tough to get that look with a 1/2 ton.

Yea it's a half ton... That's what I'm wondering. Can I get the look with a half ton? I'd like to get as close to that as possible.

Just gotta ask, without seeing bolt pattern, how can you know that its a 3/4 ton truck?
I had the same drivers stepside fender on my 1/2 ton truck, only it came from a 67 1/2 ton with the spare tire mount and a shorty.

without going with the pizza cutter muddies...you can go with a 235/75 or 225/75 tire and will give you a tall slender look like that. And around here right now, Michelin is giving a superior sale pricing on that tire size.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but it sure looks like a 3/4 ton to me.

Hmm. I THINK the truck in post 1 is a LONG stepside, therefore, a 3/4 tonner. But it sure is hard for me to tell in that pic.. However, the caps are concave, vice convex like 3/4 tonners. So hard to tell them apart sometimes.

ANyhoo... You need 15" tires, not 16" like landsurvey's (Daaang that truck looks great landsurvey!)

Regardless, your truck is 2wd, yes? Not sure you can achieve the look/stance of your first post with a 2wd truck - pretty sure it's a 4x4.

Dang - the longer I stare at that pic (post 1) the less I think I know what I'm lookin at... It could be a 3/4 tonner with later 3/4 ton gmc caps perhaps (they became concave after 72) - or a 1/2 tonner with correct gmc caps. Ugh.

Why is that.... what am I missing? Why not put 16s on a half-ton? The OP already said he wants different wheels too....
