how to remove a pto drive shaft?
my pto/winch d/shaft has a key-way and set screw on both ends. is their enough play to slide it one way or the other to get it off the shaft? take the pto off the trans? one u-joint is broke and the shaft is bent--guess i can cut it off?

If you cut it off, cut at the shoulder of the yoke (at weld) make repair/re-weld easier.
good luck |

if the shaft is bent then the whole thing will probably need replaced so you could cut it anywhere you please. Being bent will also probably keep it from sliding it together and letting it come out.

I would just burn it off at the easiest place.

Re: how to remove a pto drive shaft?
If the shaft is bent and you try to reuse it you will get enough vibration to really tear things apart. Best bet is to replace things. Neapco makes good PTO U joints. There 1200 series should work good. You can get end yokes for most round sizes. For the shaft, 1-1/8" hex shafting will work best. One side can be with a set screw and the other side can be fitted with a slip yoke with a grease fitting. The 1200 series is good for 25 HP at 540 RPM, enough to run any PTO winch up to 20K.

Re: how to remove a pto drive shaft?
Sorry = my bad, I forget not everyone has the same resources available to them that I have.
Good advice: Cut driveline where you can access it, remove it & install a new one. |

Re: how to remove a pto drive shaft?
thanks guys--I will probably just cut it off as it being bent, and the ft u-joint being broke.

Re: how to remove a pto drive shaft?
I'd remove the pto off the tranny and reinstall the cover plate. Dont go stupid with torches just yet! Yes its bent, but if you dont have skills to make a new shaft a good local driveshaft shop can hook you up. It will be easier for the shop to have a bent shaft than a torched one! I have a pto on the 62! Ill take a peek and take some pictures.

Re: how to remove a pto drive shaft?
Well I took some pix of my pto and mines diffrent. I have some IH and Ford ptos kicking around the cellar that have driveshafts, It will take some time to find. Built a new shop and slowley restocking and finding things. If I remember correctly those pto's have an allen screw on the u-jount itself locking the shaft into place. For what its worth Ill add my Marion pto pic's.

Re: how to remove a pto drive shaft?
Benwah---i cut mine to get it off, no slip joint just a home made shaft with keyed ends with u-joints. ends were frozen and the only other way than cut would be remove winch or pto. going to build a shaft with a coupling that bolts together.
thanks for the reply
