new to the site

my avatar shows our '56 3100.

my wife is a freelance artist and I've had a mechanical background from 12yrs old.

this is a project we both decided on, she gets the show and I get the go.

being manual steering and brakes a little concerned of safety.

have been looking into swapping a newer style frame, with independent front, power steering, and power disc brakes.

anyone want to throw some ideas out there. this is are first classic vehicle project.

thanks for any advice.

Check out this build thread:

It's a favorite around hear. Very informative and a clean build. I'm sure you could PM many of the other members with "Task Force" trucks for info if they don't chime in soon. What are your plans for the truck(driver, show piece, work horse)? Also we like pictures of trucks, so the more the better.

Re: new to the site

Well it looks great so far!
What are your plans?
It looks like in the pictures you're planning on putting the truck on a c10 chassis and camaro subframe?

Re: new to the site

my original plan was to cut the frontend of the original frame and weld in a camaro frontend, then I ran into alot of changes that needed to be made to re-install the caddy motor. and gas prices went thru the roof and was reconsidering changing the motor. during my research found another co that has plans to mount a 55-59 body on a c10 frame with minor adjustments, so that started the use of the other frame. I purchased a descent complete c10 truck for the same price the welder was charging me to weld in the camaro frt sub-frame. I felt that the minor changes with the c10 outweighed the camaro idea as in safety and end result cost.

my biggest reason for doing all these changes is that this is a group project between my wife and I. technically I call it her vehicle. so being that it is manual steering and manual drum brakes with a 500 ci caddy motor I wanted it to be safer for her to drive. meaqning power steering, brakes, and independant front suspension.

the truck weighs like 3000 lbs soaking wet, with 1/3 of that weight on a solid axle in the front being on the classic truck site I'm sure you guys know about bump and axle steering.
