Firewall Help Needed

I am cleaning up the firewall on my 65 SBSS; the PO drilled a number of holes. I want to weld up everything that I am not going to use. I am trying to figure out what the two holes circled below are for. I really would appreciate some guidance on what the holes are for. Thanks!

Re: Firewall Help Needed

Not to create confusion, I was looking into grommets for those holes for my '64 over the weekend and the big one had nothing going through it, the small one had the speedometer cable, and the parking brake cable went through the rectangular hole just below the steering opening.

agree, just pulled mine apart... clutch speedo, then the square is e. brake

anyone know how the automatic trucks were set up? no hole for the clutch rod, or did they have a rubber plug?

Glad you clarified it! From what I could tell from the shop manual, I thought the square one was e brake.

I am planning not using the firewall mat, I am going to use Dynamat. I have already removed the studs for the firewall mat and filled them. Will go ahead and fill the larger one for the clutch, mine is an automatic. It is kind of confusing since this same cab was used for so many different versions of the truck.

First response said it was the clutch push rod which makes sense.

Re: Firewall Help Needed

The small hole next to the large one is where the plug for the tail lights harness goes through.

Re: Firewall Help Needed

wrong sir. tail lights goes higher on the fire wall. the big hole is the clutch rod hole. it large because of the swing of the bell crank. When factory it has a boot on it.
