Cargo Lamp install issues - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Have any of you guys had issues with the dumb well nuts pulling through and not gripping the cab like they should? I'm guessing I will need to get some one on the inside to hold the well nut while I tighten the screw to help keep the well nut from pulling through the cab? I wouldn't think these would pull through the cab so easily, but both of mine did. It's kind of a PITB.

what are you guys doing to keep from having this. Glue them in? Hmm.....

I installed mine a long time ago but I was thinking I used some small washers on them to flatten them out when I tightened them up.

They make a tool to install those, but you can just use a longer bolt and nut with some washers. Install the bolt with the nut all the way against the head of the bolt. Hold the head of the bolt as you tighten the nut down on to the rib nut. This will tighten the rib nut back to the cab.

Are you using the spacer which goes between the well nut and the cargo lamp housing?

Well son of a gun! Thanks for the help guys. I do not have any spacers. Haha But I think I know where some are. I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks again!

sorry to bring this back to life. I just peiced mine back together. what a royal pain in the butt. I never got the lamp tight against the body. Now looking at the LMC picture one more time I see the top hat has the big side on the outside of the body. I did it the other way assumeing the fat part of the top hat would be tight against the body and hold it in place.

But now Im thinking when you screw in the bolt it swells up the skinny part and thats what holds it in place??

Which way does the rubber top hat go?

Also is it normal that the cargo light only works when the dome lights are on? Seems to be on the same circuit.

And one more... Is it normal not to be able to turn on the dome lights with the headlight switch? i thought you could spin it all the way and it would turn them on.

well i went out today and put them in with the big part of the rubber nut on the outside of the body and the thing tightened right up.
So all lights officially working.
