Intake manifold gaskets
well, I swapped my old 305 for 350 few weeks back. New 350 had stock gm intake manifold , so I swapped my old edelbrock intake off my 305(which had 327 style) intake when I bought it. Replaced all intake gaskets and everything, but last week for my birthday I got brand new intake manifold which I wonna swap again, but was wondering if i should replace intake gaskets again( engine hasn't been started) or leave gaskets on and just replace an intake?
PS old edelbrock has warped thermostat base so in leaks. |

I would replace the gaskets while it has no coolant in it. Be a mess if you have a leak then have to do it in the truck after. M2C

All gaskets or just back and front rtv? Engine hasn't been started even yet. i installed new gasket 2 weeks ago when I swaped 305 intake on and just torqued bolts down, so gaskets are clean and dry (brand new) and I used rtv front and back, so those will be scraped/cleaned and reapplied.

I'd change them (just in case). Engine may not have been fired, but the gaskets have been compressed.

I`d change them, as they have been compessed/torqued down, they are cheap. What manifold where you running that was warped?

Do I have to have rtv around every water jacket inside and outside of the gasket?

I've had good luck w/ Permatex Hi-tack around gas ports and Permatex Ultra RTV every where else.
Don't think compressed gasket will hurt if sealant used on all surfaces. For me the key is to assemble quickly before RTV skins. If mating surfaces are perfect and you prefer dry gasket then I would not use a compressed gasket unless dead broke. |
