Re: Short or long water pump for 350

All small block Chevy engines in pick ups, up to 1972 came from the factory with short style water pumps. The alternator would be mounted on the drivers side. If equipped with A/C the compressor would be mounted on the passenger side. 1973 and later 350 engines came from the factory with long style water pumps and the alternators were mounted on the passenger side with the A/C compressor on the driver side.

My 72 has a 1978 engine that has all of the long water pump accessory's and it works just fine. However, I am going to change it all back to short style because it was original that way and I like the short style better.
