1952 3800 rear axle seals?
So I am trying to get my 3800 on the road and was trying to run the original rear axle but both hub seals and pinion seals are leaking A LOT and I am having a real hard time finding parts for it. Even the socket for the axle nuts. Also I am curious of what the top speed of the truck will be with the 5.14:1 gears will be...

50 m.p.h. and the pistons will sound like they are changing holes
Try http://www.fillingstation.com Check out this http://www.wallaceracing.com/gear-speed.php Plug in your tire diameter and gear ratio and see what comes up

Re: 1952 3800 rear axle seals?
Yeah that is what I was fearing haha. I am glad a thought of this before I got to far financially into this axle. I have line on a couple dana 60's to keep the 8 lug but with 4.10 gears. Much more drive able and not dragging down the low hp l6 Just have to figure out what the wheel track is on one...

Actually 4.10 might be alittle to much gear too. Ha I'll have to look into this a little more I guess

Re: 1952 3800 rear axle seals?
g&r is wildly exaggerating
i drove my 58 3800 w/5.14s all over the country, one trip from kalispell mt (30 m from canada) to key west fl at 45 mph did you try napa for the seals? i think a 3.73 would be a good gear for I6 the 5.14 is for towing while fully loaded

Re: 1952 3800 rear axle seals?
Haha wow that's quite a road trip. Well I decided that I was going to swap axles. I looked into to s10 axles because they're cheap and abundant but then I wanted to stay eight lug and 5 to 8 lug adapters are around $120... So I found a dana 60 out of a 79 F350 with 4.11 gears and picked it up for not much more then just the adapters ha. So I am going to run that for more mild cruising manners. Just have to check/change the yoke and move the spring perches inward to meet the trucks leafs.
