I'm replacing the bushings on a '69 Chevy C10 upper control arm. I removed the control arm and the shims and found 3 washers on each mounting stud. Would like to know if maybe some previous owner installed these washers in place of a spacer or if these washers actually belong there. To reassemble, first the 3 washers would be installed over the stud, then the shims would go between these washers and the a-arm cross shaft. Then the nuts would be installed. The question is are these 3 washers stock and should they be there? Thanks

probally added somewhere along the line in the last 40years to correct an alignment problem

Most likely yes to correcting an alignment problem.

When you have a bunch of spacers for alignment, sometimes the spacers work themselves out of the bracket.

Washers don't shimmy out , so to speak. But it makes for a problem if you need to remove a washer unless you remove the arm from the frame.

Washer are considered better in high perf. applications simply because they cannot drop out. The technique is to set the alignment with shims then replace the shims with an equivalent stack of washers. Stacking both sounds like someone chasing a problem.

I have an issue with my left front being tucked in at the tip causing me to pull. But my shim length is maxed so I can't push out the top any further. Can I fix this by putting longer studs in so that Ivan allow the top to go out further? Or do I have a bigger issue?

New type 72 it sounds like you have other problems. Maybe a bent frame or control arm. Are the springs stock or have they been cut?

It's been a long time... but my suspension only needed a couple small shims to get it right... are these lowered trucks?
