Yes you can, you need a switch to hook up (12volt) to lock up the Converter, but you do not need a Puter. B&M sells a switch with a slide bar that you can adjust the point when the overdrive engages. I hope this helps.

Re: tranc help

You can also modify the valve body to lock up with hydraulic pressure or run a simple jumper harness to lock up when it shifts into 4th. From what others who have done this have said, its cheap and it works , but its a little firm on the shift.

I wanted mine to shift and act as smooth as I could. After reading a bunch of builds and asking how they drove, I ended up with a TCI harness with the supplied vacuum switch. It locks the converter after shifting to 4th and unlocks when it senses a change in engine vacuum or rpm. Works great, easy installand couldn't be happier.

You set the switch where you want it to shift into overdrive and leave it alone, unless you want it to shift sooner, you move it to the left, later u move it to the right. You just have to play with it and see where it suits u.

The unit that I used on my 65 was a B&M controller, I have been using it for about 8 years and it works great. Just Google B&M overdrive controllers and you have to specify if your speedo is mechanical or electronic. There are probably more dealers that make them, but I am very satisfied with mine. It was very easy to install, if this helps.
