Is Windlace necessary?

I think I understand its purpose, but is the wind lace really necessary on my pickup?

Are they different options?

Why doesn't the door seal serve this function?

BTW, my cab has the steel tracks for it, but some are pretty rough. That's why I'm asking

Re: Is Windlace necessary?

It does seem to cut down wind noise.
If worse comes to worse you can ditch the tracks and use the early style seals. but you have to use the retaining strips. I was considering that myself on my 52 GMC.

Re: Is Windlace necessary?

They just seem to detract from the overall appearance of a nice interior, in my opinion. I wonder if anyone else has used newer style door seals to remedy this issue. I'd like to try a few different styles to see what works, but they're so expensive that's its not worth cutting them up.

Anybody else using later model weather seals?

Re: Is Windlace necessary?

Maybe door panels that cover from the window trim to the bottom of the doors with carpet at the bottom.

Re: Is Windlace necessary?

This interior was done without windlace and worked out great.. the panels came very close to the edge of the doors and we used a good rubber seal around the doors..

That thing is slick! Love that color, and the interior looks pretty comfy. What rubber what used for the door seals?

Basically, its a secondary door seal, mostly used to cut down on wind noise and blow-by through the door seals. My problem with it is that it is NOT hidden when the doors are closed, so it either blends in with you color choice, or not.

A lot of upholstery shops use the water proof panel board that is used for around bath tubs and showers. That is what I am going to use when I get to that point regular hardboard works but I like the idea of the water proof stuff.
And I know you don't get much rain in Washington!

It runs across the floor from door jamb to door jamb and has a rubber or vinyl tube that contacts the door.

These two pictures are the best ones i could come up with fast showing you how windlace is used to seal the doors from the inside.. you can see the lace running around the door edge in the first picture and in the 2nd one you can see how it looks with the door closed... this was on the '52 suburban we built..

Uh, that orange truck is a task force, mid 55 to 60, exactly where would "windlace" be installed on it?

Thanks! I was hoping for somewhere local, rather than paying way too much for shipping. That perfect.

They stopped using wind lace after the AD trucks.

The TF trucks got weather striping on the doors.

I think thats what I said, just wondering why we were looking at a TF picture to show where it goes?

Any good sign supply house will have it. I was able to buy it in 4' x 12' sheets for my panel truck interior.
