Made more progress on our Panel Project..

Well we have made more progress on our project. We installed our air dash, repaired more of the rear quarter, and shaved the seam where the roof meets the side of the body. Check it out... and let me know what you think. We are trying to make this project informative also.

As the project progresses it is becoming more and more custom. I realy like the way lotik has the forward tilting cowl hood on his truck, so we are going to do the same thing to ours. (Thanks for posting that lotik) I also will be shaving the gas filler and either opting for the behind the taillight filler, or going with a gas door. It will be lowered 4 1/2 inches in the front and 6 or 7 in the rear. Some day we hope to bag the truck, however that will have to wait. Also considering a TPI for the BB396, but that is on the back burner also. I allso have been racking my brains out as to what I want to do with the barn doors if anything... Considering a full lift gate like on the newer vans. I was considering some sort of hidden hinge, but I don't think that will work on these barn doors. Just kind of winging it...LOL I also hope to show it sometime, but it will have to be in some sort of working class show. That is because it will have my logo on the side. Wes, check out the back doors on this. rear hatch and the bottom halves of the barn doors. This is an awsome look.
A lot of work but judging by your progress you could handle it.

Looks like lots of work is going into that project!

I say go wild and shorten the back end of the truck about 18 inches for more of a Blazer/Tahoe/Yukon look.

MrShelley, I won't be shortening it. One of the reasons that I bought it was because it is what it is. I have always loved panels, even since high school. The panel has lots of space to put my logo on also. If you look at the picture on my home page and also in my avitar, you see a Blazer that I have made look like a short panel. dinnut, I do know what you mean about opening like a newer lift gate, and I thought long and hard about that one, but have all but eliminated that possibility. The weight of the doors and the amount of reinforcing that I think that will needed will het in the way of the rear air that I want to install. (I think) It just hit me on the way back from dinner last night that I will stay with the barn doors, only I will try to use the jeep hinges that NSANE68!!! is using on his suiside doors so that they are hidden when the doors are shut. The only thing that I realy don't like about the origanal set up is those ugly hinges that stick out so far in the back. I think that if I am able to shave those and maybe the door handle (mabe not?) it will have the look that I like. There is one other customization that I do like also and that is also one that i think that NSANE68!!!did, and that is using the SS out of the Nisson tailgates welded in place of the fender emblems. I think that those with a little pearl sprayed over them would look exelent, and would go along with all the subtle modifications that i have been doing. Keep the comments coming I appriciate them, and I will keep the updates coming also. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

heres one more of a tilt hood

what about this for the doors. weld the 2 together and have it fly open from the side. and make it so it can be opened from either side. you could use the air from ur air suspension in a form of a strut or something to slide along the bottom and push the door out

WES, Could I get some detail pics of the tilt hood, the hinges, and the mounting of it all? Also, where could I get one? Who sells them?
I've been wanting to do a tilt hood and swing away front fenders on my truck but really haven't been able to find anything.
Thanks

I do not have any pictures of that set up yet. I will once I do the modification. For now the only information that I have on it, is the information that lotik has provided. The hinges are out of a 90's model Buick LeSabre. I will be winging it through the process and once I am finnished, then I will post in our website the process we went through. I will be able to provide detailed pictures then. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
