I'm lookin to buy a new set of tires before the snow flies and was wondering which series of super swampers you guys would recomend. I need something road friendly but aggressive in the mud and snow. I'm looking to buy 35x12.5(or 14-15.5)x15's and dont want to spend over $200 a piece. I have checked around online already at prices and styles ans I'm leaning towards the SSR but its pretty pricey. I'm also up for other tires too if some of you have had good experience with other brands, Just let me know what you all think. TIA, DK

Pretty good choice. I would maybe check out the new PJ's, but they are really pricey.

I'm very happy with my SSR's, 35 x 12.5 x 16. Pleasant on the road and aggressive for other conditions. I also am using Goodyear MT/R's on my newer truck and am very happy with them also.

I'm running the SSR's on my truck and I'm really happy with them. However, they have not been off the pavement yet so I still don't know how they will perform in the mud or snow. My tires ( in the pic below ) are 35x14.5 on 15x14 Welds. I run them at about 22psi on the street and they wear really well. Best price I was able to find on them when I bought them was $240 each.

If you want to save on cash, get some ProComp Mud Kings or equivalent in the 35-12.5 size.
If you're stuck on Swampers, you're looking at the $200 range, period. I managed to get a set of 36-12.5-15 TSL Radials for $775 from 4WPW, but that was on special price with internet only free shipping. I waited forever till I found that price and hten jumped on it.

Look into the TRUXUS mt's . I had a set of 31's on my toyota and they worked great on and off road . The tread pattern is a little closer than reg. swamper .They rode well and were really quiet good wear pattern also .At first I didn't know about the close tread pattern but when they hit the mud it didn't take long to see that I was not disappointed. Those side biters work too. PLUS they are around $169 for a 35 .

I just bought the SSR 38x15.50x16 and will let ya know once I get some miles on them . A bud got 35K out of a set of 35" SSR's on a fullsize ford and loved them. I ran a set of 36x14.50x16.5 Swamper radials before and they are loud but handle pretty good. Did alright in the mud and snow to. I heard the PJ's are a good tire but was alot more spendy then the SSR. I paid $290 for the 38" SSR from 4 wheel parts warehouse. That was mounted and balanced also

In my opinion the SS TSL is a great tire for mud and snow but terrible for ice. You might want the truxus as Truckers69 mentioned. Or some tire shops will sipe the SS tires for you.

Well I stopped by one of the local tire shops in town and found out that they want $200 a piece for the Super Swamper SSR. So thats what I'll be ordering this coming monday. I'm still going to double check the price tomorrow and see if they do free mounting and spin balancing with the purchase of 4 new tires. I alse need new valve stems. I'll probably be looking at $850- $860 when its done with.

Oh, for those of you that have used these tires before or are using them, whats the mileage life of the SSR?

I love them but....
-They make for a very rough ride(i need my whole front end rebuilt, u joints, ball joints etc)
-Its hard for me to get into 5th gear at a decient speed because of the larger tires(it seems to lug around 60)
-My speedo is off
- and it feels like I have axle hop/wrap in the rear now... is that normal when upgrading?

I forgot to mention that the only time it feels like there is axle wrap/hop and the only time its really rough ridding is when I'm driving on bad roads. With my 33's the same roads were rough but now with the 35's everything seems more exaturated(sp?)

Nice looking truck. I am going to be looking for some tires at tax season and have been looking at those too. I really would like to get super swamper boggers but I would like to get several years out of them. Alot of people that I have talked to that have used them say they only get about 10000 to 15000 miles and they are shot for everyday use.

I just want some that look really cool.

Guess i just need to wait till then to worry alot about it.

Pro-Comp X-Terrains are awesome looking and they are wearing great so far--have about 15k on mine on a '79 full time full wheel drive rig. The key is to rotate them often--I do it every oil change--it may be overkill but it only takes about 10 minutes extra and I never forget that way.
