71 vs 72 intake differences
I was out in the garage getting the intake for my 72 ready for a cleaning and noticed two threaded holes on the pass. side that I don't have on either of my 71's. Anyone know what they're for? The first pic is the 71, second is the 72.

The holes on the manifold are for mounting an AC compressor. Cars had these holes starting in 69 I believe as my 69 El Camino has the compressor mounted on the driver's side using those holes. The engine in my El Camino is numbers matching with original AC so I am sure that the holes were there on that year.
Truck AC's were moved to the driver's side in 1973 so if your manifold numbers are for a 72 truck then it is probably a late 72. Jim

Thanks Jim, that's interesting. The only other thing I found about my 72 intake was that it shares the same casting number as the base corvettes which I believe mounted their compressors on the pass. side like our trucks and from what I've seen its a 72 year only casting number.

In 72, trucks and corvettes, still used short water pumps, and had a/c compressors mounted on the pass. side. Unlike everything else that went to long pumps in 69. But yes, those are a/c bracket holes.
