Thumbs down Classic Parts

I have bought a lot of stuff from them, and have read nothing but good things on this site. However, I have been dealing with a guy named Earl in their customer service and I am not happy with this guy at all.

I bought a bed wood kit, stainless strips and all of the mounting hardware for an 87' Chevy step-side. When I laid it all out to install it I was missing one of the bed strips. I noticed that the mounting holes on the cross seals were not lining up either, but didn't think much of it. The wood seemed to fit fine, other than the missing strip.

On 2/18/13 I called customer service and talked to Earl. He asked how many bed strips I had and I told him I had 6. He begins to argue with me that the kit only comes with 6. I tell him, I don’t know how many it comes with but I can tell you for sure that I am missing one. After a bit of back and forth I offered to email him a picture.

After I got off the phone with him I did some research and found out the 73-87 beds have 7 boards and 6 strips. Earlier models had 8 boards and 7 strips. Earl replied to my email with the picture and asked me to give him the width and count of each board. I gave him the measurements, but said I had already drilled the mounting holes in the wood and thought the boards would work fine if he would just send me the extra bedstrip and mounting hardware.

Earl replies back a couple of days later that they sent me a wood kit for the wrong year truck, and I need to send back four of the boards and he will replace them. I replied that I already drilled holes and cut two of the boards he wants returned, and I don’t think they could reuse them even if I sent them back. I also said that I didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle of returning the wood, and I thought it would be easier for both of us if he would just send the bedstrip and hardware.

After a few more days of not hearing from Earl, I called and talked to someone else and explained the situation. The guy I talked to said he would talk to Earl when he got in and have him call me.

Two days later (10 days after this saga began) I get the below email from Earl, that he will send the bedstrip but I have to pay for the extra mounting hardware. Also, when I called to pay for the mounting bolts he tells me it will probably take at least a week and a half before I receive the bedstrip because it is coming from Maine.

Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous? He should have sent me the damn bedstrip and hardware 10 days ago and I shouldn’t have had to pay for ****. Now I have to wait another couple of weeks to get my bed put back together.

Well sir there is no Jeff in customer service, but whoever you spoke to I'm sure forgot to mention that you will need to count what hardware you need and that will need to be purchased. That unfortunately I will not be able to do anything about those costs.

Thanks,
Earl

Earl,
I just talked to Jeff up there in customer service. I worked on the bed over the weekend and drilled new mounting holes in the metal cross sills to match the wood. I have got most of the wood stained and ready to install. It fits the truck fine with the new mounting holes so I don't need any replacement boards. I just need the additional stainless bed strip and mounting hardware. I know you guys are going through a blizzard up there, but can you get back to me on this when you get in? I am trying to finish up this project. Thank you

Yes sir, I apologize for not contacting you today, I spoke with my bed wood specialist about this issue and the measurements you provided us. You actually received the wrong year set of bed wood, and also the two pieces of wood that you drill will be replaced and we will need the 5" and 4.5"
boards.

Thanks,
Earl

Mr. Greenlee,

I just looked over the images you had sent me with our bedwood specialist, he and I both agreed that the wood you have in the bed of the truck is not the original setting, if you would mind measuring the bedwood you have. Then please email back with the measurements and the count of each measurement.

Thanks,
Earl
