Ca. lic. plate question...

Anyone know the year California went from black/yellow to blue/yellow plates?

I am not sure what year the black ended. But my 71 swb pickup has the black plates on it.

Unfortunatley Cal have not passed the law allowing you to change you plates back to the color (black and gold) that may have originally come on the vehicle when new. The reason for this is because they are not reflective.

My 72 has original black/yellow. :p

Not sure when the change was made, but if plates were replaced after the change, you got the new colors.

jugernot, are you sure about that law? i had a `57 p/u and bought some original yellow plates for it and the dmv just had me fill out a form. could`nt register them though cuz` the truck wasn`t registered.

It was mid year 1972. I know that for a fact as my new 72 Cheyenne 4x4 had the Blue/yellow and my dads new Lincoln that was bought 2 months earlier was black/yellow.. Anyone with a older truck that has a blue /yellow plate on it isnt the orig plate.
