The Sata is a great gun, you should get a 1.2, 1.4 and 2.2 sets of caps and needles. You can shoot just about anything with one gun if you buy multiple caps and needles for it.

Sata makes a real nice gun that's for sure... I worked at an autobody shop for a couple years, and my boss liked his Sata alot. He also had good luck with Devilbiss as well.

Re: What paint guns should I buy?
I paint and I would reccommend a dedicated clear coat gun. A gun for color with maybe a 1.3 or 1.4 tip as color costs more than anything. You want to try to get as much as you can on the car without blowing it everywhere.
When I went to a 1.3 gun it doesnt appear that I have as much paint dust on the floor now and it seems like I dont use as much materials now. Depends on what you are doing for primer as to what you do for a gun .... I would definitely research that. I use a high build direct to metal urethane primer , so you do want a bigger tip. I use a 1.5 tip because that is what I had available but a 1.6 might be better . Brands of guns are more personal preference. I don't spend a lot of money on guns because 99.9% of the time I am going to sand and polish it anyway to get rid of any orange peel that it may have. That my .02 worth |

Re: What paint guns should I buy?
I'm a rookie myself, and I bought a set from Devilbiss. They offer a 'Starting Line' set with a 1.5, 1.8, and a touch up gun with a fancy case and all I've had really good luck with them so far. I think we paid $260 or so for the set (?) Dont remember. Two guns, dedicated primer and clear / base guns.. cleaning kit, etc. Pretty cool setup. We bought them from Summit.

Buy: 1. gun for primer 2. gun for JUST clear 3. Gun for just base (with multiple tips) 4. detail gun 5. and maybe if you use it alot, a gun for just POR15 or heavy coatings that will destroy the gun if you dont clean it out properly Go to a local paint supply shop (THAT ALSO PAINTS) and ask their lead guy what kinda guns they got that are reasonable priced but not brand name like SATA and youll get all those guns for what youd pay for just one sata clear gun. just my .02 |
