I am currently going through the same dilemma, except that I haven't ordered the lift yet. I want to stay as low as possible for various reasons, but don't want any rubbing, and refuse to trim!

I always ran 35's with a 4" lift. Of course, I had junk and beat on it, so clearance wasn't an issue either way.

late 80's early 90's my k5 had a 4" lift with 35" (so it said on sidewall) Kumho Powerguards, they were barely 34" tall. no tire contact anywhere on/off road. they still make them, called Road Venture M/T now. basically a re-hashed old skool BF M/T, but half the price

Re: smallest 35" tires that you know of?
Very few off road type tires that are sized by inches actually match those measurements. They can be as much as 2"shorter than "advertised".
It is somewhat affected by the wheel width. In the larger sizes a wider wheel will make the tire taller. I have personally seen 42" and 44" tires grow as much as 2" when mounted to a 12" or 14" wide wheel.
