Angry No more special plates

I have a collection of MN 72 only chevy truck plates...Two of my trucks have the plates already registered..They are grandfathered in...I went to the MN DMV yesterday to get another 72 plate registered and they informed me that they do not do that anymore...I get a regular MN collector plate..

Well that blows!!! I'm also in MN and just a couple months ago I asked if I could do just this and the person at the DMV said yes. I suppose some new legislator or up and coming cop figured they needed to possibly save the state millions of dollars from potential fraud and lobbied to change the law. Just one of many new laws to justify their own existence. I can just imagine them stating their case for the change: if we contiune to allow people to put on old plates anyone could put on an old plate on their classic vehicle and bypass paying the tax dollars we should be getting.

Re: No more special plates

These days, the tax people are finding any way they can to make an extra buck. I put up a small deck by a small 10X16 tool storage shed in country property I have so I wouldn't have to walk in the mud. They measured it for tax purposes.

Re: No more special plates

Fickle minded bureaucrats. Either it's ok or it isn't. The worst thing is they change their minds on what we can or can't do with no need for explanation. I'm sitting here trying to think of any reason why it should suddenly become not ok. All the time spent on making these decisions I thought was to cover all the bases, look at all the angles, consider all pros and cons, then make the decision. Sure appears none of that happened when just a few years later they flip flop on what they decided.

Re: No more special plates

Jeremy this blows, couldn't you still run one on the front as vanity since collector plates are only issued singly for the rear?

Re: No more special plates

I bought Hobby/Antique tags for my two trucks. Paid one time up front price then regular tag price after that. It lasted two years, then GA legislature changed the rules. These tags are now an extra $35 every year.
