question about 4 inch lowering in rear
Do I need to get a shock re locator kit with 4 inch springs? All I could find was an article about 6 inch drop springs.

I agree. I am going to drop my rear 5 inches. Based on numerous recommendation on this forum, I am going to order it from Early Classic Enterprises. They have a full kit that includes Rear Coils, Super Track Bar Kit, Shock Mount Relocator Kit and 2 KYB Shocks.

i have 5 inch drop springs. nothin else. that bein said i do want a new track bar but she rides like a caddy without it. no inter-fearance anywhere

I dropped mine 4" and only put an adjustable track bar and drop shocks. i was told the relocators are needed in 5+" drops, is that not correct?

I read that the shocks should be no more than 15 degrees. Not sure what they would be at with a four in drop. But in case I want another inch I'll install the kit and see how it looks and rides. BTW Summit has the shocks on sale for 20 bucks each so if you want to get a few extra sets now is the time.

Mounting shocks at angles reduces the overall dampening effect of the shock. Reason being; the shock’s mechanisms will travel geometrically, less of a distance than that of the suspension system. Some vehicles (early model Land Cruisers, etc.) have their rear shocks mounted at about a 30-degree inward (inward = leaning toward the differential, not forward or aft-ward) angle, while others have their shocks mounted at a 20 degree angle or so forward and/or aft ward of the rear axle (e.g. Chevy, Jeep CJ’s, etc.). There are several reasons why this might be done. First, available space… regardless, if this is something you are going to do yourself, you’ll need to increase the static pressure of shock to mimic the shocks effectiveness of it being in a perpendicular location. Secondly, you can gain more suspension articulation than would normally be limited by the overall travel of the shock absorber if it were located perpendicular to that of mounting your shocks at an angle, if you don’t have room for a taller shock absorber. The charts here show the overall estimated reduced effectiveness of a raked shock absorber. However, these numbers should only be used as a rule of thumb as other factors such as the arc of the suspension cycle can factor in. A four inch drop at stock location means the shock is at a 42 degree angle without a load....

For what it's worth, I installed 4" rear drop coils and also did the shock relocation bracket along with the longer trac bar. Rides so much better now. There are so many opinions on this. Do what your budget will allow . The rear of our trucks bounce anyway . Hey, post a pinion angle question and see what you get.

I had several dropped 6 in the back with my only mod being installing front shocks on the back since they were shorter. The shocks were laid over like hell with the truck that low. I used to cut the springs on everything I owned. I had a huge caddy so low I would rip the tranny pan open about once a month. It had a bent pushrod so I pulled the rocker off and the pushrod out and drove it like that for a year or so before selling it. Ahh to be young and dumb! And broke.

I usded the shock relocators from CCP at first....didnt work well...I then bought the relocators from No Limit.....the kit was $149.... money well spent....

What was wrong with the kit you got? I got the 60 dollar kit from brothers I think. All the 60 dollar kits look the same and the CCP site isn't user freindly enough for me to use.
