700r4 conversion

Hey guys. Been trying to gather some info as to what is needed to complete the changeover from a Th350 to a 700r4. I've read a few Conflicting things on the drive shaft lengths as well as the transmission Tailstock. I already have the transmission. Just waiting on getting these last few bugs worked out.

Here are the parts I know I need so far

transmission x member
Tv cable and bracket

Might go take a look down yonder in the FAQ or do a SEARCH been addressed a bazillon times.

TV cable from aDVANCE aUTO IT WAS A UNIVERSAL, the braket from walking around local junk yard and cost $2.00

I'm sure it has. I've searched but didn't find much. Didn't look at the FAQ. Gonna check now.

Your crossmember will work ,I would allso suggest to get a drain plug for the pan.Alot of guys use the stock bracket & cable but if u changed carbs you will need to modify the bracket and get a geometry bracket.I just finished this swap on my truck.You can allso look down in the engine ,drivetrain section SORRY IF I came off rude earlier

Not at all bro. No worries. I know sometimes it's just a matter of not entering the right key words in the search engines and you could be missing out on tons of info that's already been discussed like you said. Yea. I'm going to be cleaning the 700 up and removing the oil pan. I Definately want to add a drain plug to it. I know what a mess servicing the trans can be. I'm currently running a Holley 650.
Im just trying to go through most of the possible scenarios before tearing into it and having the truck down while I figure out the bugs.

Did you have to replace or cut your driveshaft? How about the transmission Tailstock ?

Depends on where your engine is now is it in the forword mount pos. or the rear 6cyl.& 4x4 spot.Look on top of frame by your spark plugs and you will see the holes for forword or the back holes your motor mount towers will be in 1 or the other I bet your in the front hole.If this is the case your shaft will need shortened.I have a swb truck that had a 6cyl in the back hole so I was able to slide the motor forword and use my shaft with no mods.Your 7r4 tailshaft will be ok just need to get a mech. speedo housing and appropiate gears.the crossmember will need moved back and a coupla new holes drilled for it.I went with a Bowtie Overdive tv made ez setup on the cable and bracket for my app.Pricey but takes the guess work out of setting the tv cable up correct which is the most important part on this .

Sounds good. I'll check the motor placement when I get home. God knows the last thing I need is a shorter shaft.
