Door Latch

So.. i was closing my door today on my '72 C-20 and i heard the sound of a metal part falling inside the door....so i opened the door and closed it again ( i was just about to drive to work.. so i needed to see if the latch would work again).. and the second time i closed the door i heard another piece of metal hit the door bottom.. so, truck into garage.. and took other car to work..since at that point the door wouldnt stay closed..

Came home tonight and pulled the door panel.. and this is what i found.. guessing its not repairable? (the round object looks like it was "Riveted" in??

Am i off to the junk yards in search of a good donor?

Re: Door Latch

Yep, your off to the junkyard or they do sell new latches. Not worth trying to repair IMO.

Just make sure if you buy a used one that there is NO play in the wheel. (part that turns and latches onto the door jam plate) Try wiggling the wheel while watching the rivet head that holds it in. Any movement, look further...

These commonly get loose in that area and when they do, it gets harder and harder to lock the door. (you have to push in on the door to turn the key)
