My Paint Budget
A nice trip to Europe just "ate thru" my paint budget.
I guess I'll go with some prep and then a decent home paint job for now with flat enamel (the primer on there is enamel...so I guess that's the way to go). I see Tractor Supply has matte black for $29/gal. I seem to remember someone on the Forum used that paint. I'm looking for any tips on budget matte or satin black (I guess) paint. Other than, "prep, prep, and more prep"...which is a given. ![]()

Re: My Paint Budget
Summit Racing has some satin and black single stage paints that are affordable. Hot rod flat black or a satin flat black. Flat black is used way too much in my opinion, I think your truck would look good flat or satin red or blue. They sell those as well.

Also I'm not a big fan of Blue, but satin blue could be pretty sweet on your truck. I agree that flat is way over used. |

Re: My Paint Budget
I actually thought about using the International Harvester red implement paint that tractor supply has. Single stage and less then $50 a gallon.
However, I just spent $700 on a half gallon of base, a gallon of clear, hardners and reducers from RM to paint my cab.

Re: My Paint Budget
There are adordable matte clears, so you can flatten any color you want.
If your hearts set on black do it. Your paying the bill. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: My Paint Budget
Didn't mean to say don't paint it matte black. It's your truck, just wanted you to check out the other colors I found. Some of them are pretty cool I'm just not brave enough to try and matte a red or blue.

Re: My Paint Budget
Yeah, I should have worded that differently.
I meant to suggest there are a lot if ways to go with a matte finish, most of which are way cooler than black. I've seen too many guys yank the fenders off an old Kawasaki and hit it with some flat black Krylon. Instantly; that $400 old bike becomes a $3000 "custom rat bobber". So when I hear someone say to look past the paint, I do. I see a $400 bike, now missing fenders and with crappy paint. Posted via Mobile Device
