Re: Factory coils to leaf spring help

I'm currently doing this swap myself, but I'm doing it because the coil spring frame was rotten (well, at least more rotten than the leaf spring frame). I do know that the frames are different over the rear axle, though. The coil spring frames, at least the 3/4 ton versions, have double wall sections through the axle hump area.

Re: Factory coils to leaf spring help

Well mine is already C notched and boxed already just for the clearance on the 5" drop springs that looks like was a waste of money seeing how the truck is still under construction.

Half ton 2WD frames are the same, coil or leaf. Shouldn't have any problems, as long as you measure and measure again. Do you already have the leaf spring brackets?

Re: Factory coils to leaf spring help

Ok guys just got the truck on my lift and from looking at my brother in laws truck his is a factory leaf truck and it seems that my bumper brackets are going to be in the way of some bolts for the hanger . Guess I need to just start pulling a tape measure and just get it . Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Re: Factory coils to leaf spring help

Instead of starting a new thread, what is the advantage/disadvantage of coils/vs leaf springs? In theory coils sounds better for ride. I figured GM gave up on them in later years mostly for money savings and simplicity.

Re: Factory coils to leaf spring help

To me leafs are a steadier ride and won't give that side to side up and down rotation you get from a car that has a bad shock . I guess it just comes down to preference . Hell , who knows I'm probably just wasting more money !!!!
