Por 15 Storage ? Need Help Asap Please

How are you supposed to store your unused portion of POR 15. Can you just store it in the can it came in as long as you put a piece of plastic wrap under the lid. Did I hear right that you are supposed to store it in the fridge? I know you can store it in a glass jar but wouldn't you know my wife doesn't have any here now that I need one. Also anything to clean it off of my hands quicker than waiting the few days to wear it off. Thanks guys.

RUBBER GLOVES, that stuff gets on and doesnt come off. i had a heck of a time getting the lid back off the second time i went to use it, wipe off any overspill in the top groove were the lid fits in. temperature must be above 50 for proper application.

thanks guys, I had on ruber gloves but one got a hole in it and you know the rest. I'm sitting here now with my knife scraping away.

I went to use the can after using that stuff once...took quite a while for it to 'wear' off.

Is that POR 15 going onto that 72 4 x 4 frame ? It does not wash off ! about 3-4 days and it will go away.

Yes RShaips it your frame. It looks good. I'm getting that por off mosty. I'll have to wear some of it for a few days. I had a small hole in onew glove. I'll have a couple of black fingernails but I notice thats in for guy to have now and days. RShaips how do you store your por 15.

We keep the stuff off the top of the can as much as we can, and then do the plastic (saran wrap) over the top like the can says...then we put the lid on it. It works pretty good, but it is no uncommon to throw away 1/2 a can. (I tell them to toss the 1/2 can in the back of my truck...I'll figure out how to open it later...it's free!)

You need to start sellin the half used cans of that stuff. I went ahead and put the plastic wrap under the lid. I fugure if I have to the next time I use it I'll just cut the can open with tin snips.

Way ahead of you on that...I sold all but one of them last week. (just don't tell my boss)
I have been buying full cans with the $$ I get for the 1/2 used cans.
The ones I can't sell are the ones we can't open.

The first can I had after use it I put the plastic wrap on it then I had trouble getting the lid off and then after that the paint got hard. Now ever time I wont to open a new can I drill a hole in the lid sqezz out what I need then I put a bolt in the drilled hole I never had trouble again unless you for get to put the bolt in the hole. I think that is the best way

did the saran wrap thing and stored it in the fridge... was able to use it many times without it going bad... lasted for more than 6 months that way...

I don't know if this helps, but if you store paint cans upside down they don't get air in throgh the microscopic holes in the lid seal, and the paint doesn't dry out. I know it works for house paint, don't know about POR15.

first off you can easily cleanup with lacquer thinner
for the storage issue what i do is drill holes in the top and use sheetmetal screws to seal it uo , take the 2screws out and pour what i need to use into a coffeecan and put the screws back in.
if your useing the stuff and painting directly out of the can having the can open while painting you're going to have alot shorter life of the stuff in the can

Last time I bought a can of it, I emptied the contents into a couple canning jars. You can get them pretty cheap at the grocery store. It's easier (less messy) to pour out of a glass jar than a paint can. Then after you pour, wipe the rim with a laquer thinner soaked rag and replace the lid. I've also used the "sheet metal screw" idea stated above which works well also. I also store it in the frige.

I don't know if this stuff would work with Por 15 or not(I don't see why it wouldn't though). I have no idea how much Por 15 costs, in other words , the Bloxygen may not be cost effective?

Sand paper takes it off the tips of your fingers pretty well

The skin goes with it too though. Wasn't intentional, just needed to do some sanding on another project after painting with POR15.

I have stored PPG clear in the fridge if I'm going to use it the next day and the hardner has already been added. It's worked pretty well but I feel a little uncomfortable doing that. I worry that it won't work right and I would have to sand and re-paint. One of these days I'm going to try POR-15. Alot of members rave about it. I used to have a sweet deal and get all of my powder coating done for free. It was my Buddy's business but he sold it and retired. I just got a core support, two inner fenders and some small various parts done. Final bill $379.00. I almost hit the floor. I had no idea how much powder coating was. I need to go a different route.

I'm pretty well impressed with the por 15 that I just put on my frame. My next project is going to be a all black truck. I'm thinking of buying the black topcoat and sandblasting and por15 the door jambs firewall ect and using the por topcoat.
