Seatbelt Retractors

How do you rewind seatbelt retractors? I took them apart a while back to clean everything and now I can't remember if the spring is supposed to be wound or not.

Yes. It needs to be wound until it has enough power to retract the belt. That's what the screw on the side is for. Keep winding it and then tighten down the nut and test it to make sure

Re: Seatbelt Retractors

So I turn the screw to wind it? Which direction, clockwise or counterclockwise? Is there a step-by-step on the board somewhere? I feel like an idiot, I should have payed attention while I was dismantling them.

Yeah, I did it about a month ago. Completely dismantled both belts, repainted everything and put it back together. It seems like you loosen the nut, then wind it clockwise with a screwdriver as it is inserted into to screw on the opposite side. Wind it 10 times or so, then tighten the nut and check to see if it retracts on its own. If not, rinse and repeat. I don't remember seeing much help on the forum. I just had to figure it out on my own as I went. But yeah, those thoughts of "why didn't I pay more attention to how these to together" kept popping up as I sweated it out. One of the hardest things, was getting those little tension clips back on. I found the best way was with two opposing flathead screw drivers
