This is enough to make you cry.

This was a pretty nice old truck. Luckily the owner had an extinguisher nearby to keep it from getting worse.

That would really suck. Good thingthe fire didn't get the entire truck. I always keep the hose handy and really make sure everthing is clean.

Yup, I have one in my truck too. I have a pretty bad story that involves being in the middle of nowhere at 2 in the am and 8 foot flames trying to eat my eyebrows. (This was the old blue longhorn) It is amazing how quick you forget how to use a fire ext.

IF you're ever without an extinguisher, and have a fire on a running engine, slit the upper radiator hose. Its cheaper than a whole truck.

You couldn't believe how close his story is to what happen to me..
Only i rebuilt the carb, and thought the gas line was tight..

The only extinguisher I had was in my mud rig and that has an alarm on it..
My wife said she has never seen anyone move a quickly as I did.As soon as it caught I knew it..I was in the front door of the house and clicking the remote for the alarm on my blazer She swears by the time the alarm disarmed I already was headed back to the '72 with the extinguisher..
I lucked out no paint damage just distributor and wires and vacuum lines.. It cost about 150 to get it back up and running..
When I went to get the extinguisher filled I bought one for my '72

..

Thank someone up above that I didn't trip or more damage was done...

I carry a large commercial size fire extinguisher. I am also a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT so often times I am first on scene to an accident and I like to be prepared till they show up with the rescue truck. I had a 95 mustang that caught fire under the hood. I was pulling in to a best buy when I saw the flames. Ran inside and grabbed one of the extinguishers out of best buy. The clerk tried to stop me. After it was over he was yelling at me for stealing a fire extinguisher and his manager came up called him a dumb ass and told him fire extinguishers were for putting out fires no matter where they happen. I managed to save the car minus wiring and a fan and some under hood insulation. It was the fan that caught fire and fortunately there was a recall on the fan for that very reason. So I also didn't have to pay to get it fixed.

Good advice...I'm gettin one. and try not to forget to check it on a regular basis to make sure it's charged. It's also a good idea to shake it up and down a few times to keep the powder loose.

If you get a dry chemical unit, be sure & shake it real hard before you use it. If the dry stuff is packed down, it will only belch & fart & nothing will come out but air. Lucky for me the roadside ditch was full of water.

I have one in every truck I own ! I watched a friends truck burn to the ground 2 weeks after my mothers bug fried to death!
