Nothing fancy, but I thought I would show you guys my motor. It's the 350 out of my '72. This is the first (car) engine I have ever rebuilt. I just have to finish putting hardened valve seats in the heads and I can finish assembling it. It's bored .030 over with a Crane Cam. Nothing fancy, but at 17 years old I don't have tons of money...

hey man I was in your shoes once too, I built a 383 for 4600 bucks, but I have a good job with no debts, so I was able to afford it, JUST DON"T BLOW IT UP

i wanna rebuild an engine. just my truck runs good enough right now to tear into it and 383 it. either that or 454 it.

That is the best way to do it, especially if you are low on money but high on ambition and time. I've never felt comfortable working on engines but seems they are like everything else, get a book, get your hands dirty and you will have it figured out in no time.

BTW, engine looks great.

Working on engines is pretty easy, and alot of fun too. Once you figure out what you are doing anyway, lol

I am in the middle of taking my motor apart. Same thing low budget build. Being 18 years old makes it tough to have enough money to build a really powerful motor. What do you figure it's going to cost you to build ? I am hoping to keep it under 2000 Cdn. But I don't think that will happen.

So far I have spent around $700 total with the rebuild kit from northernautoparts.com and boring it .030 over and polishing the crankshaft. I think it will be around $1600 total with my street avenger 770 carb and intake and hedman headers.

I already have the frame sandblasted and painted black, the cab comes next. I need to order some rust repair panels from LMC and get crackin'...

Cool I hope I can build mine for around that conveted into Cdn dollars I just pulled the heads off of mine and the walls look really good. The truck only had about 50,000 miles on it. I kinda want to go 30 over for some reason.

I just added up what I have in my frame it's around $3000 Cdn. I was like holy crap ! I feel like burning the rest of the recipets. If you want to feel good about building a truck don't add up the recipets.

Your doin' a heck of alot better than I did at 17 with MY first engine rebuild. I was into air-cooled VW's at the time and rebuilt a Squareback engine. Took alot of cheapo shortcuts and the engine overheated and caught fire
