1971 Chevy truck Question

Hey guys I have a 1971 Chevy K20 4wd And I bought It all apart It has no engine in it. It has a TH400 sitting in the frame rails my question is is there a way to tell on the cab if it was an auto or standerd truck.

no hole in floor for shifter (not 205 shifter) indicates not a 4-spd. Unless you have the column (?) I'm not sure of another give-away that it was or wasn't a 3OTT.

Btw, I do not believe TH400 was available from the factory in K's. I'm not 100% positive on that - perhaps just a K10 thing, but I thought it was the case for K20s also.

Still have the glovebox door/SPID that came with your cab? It will list the auto trans - lack of M49 on the SPID usually means manual trans. I'm assuming you don't have that info though.

Not a definitive answer for you, but maybe will help.

There would be a flang on the divers side of the frame for the clutch bell crank linkage attaches to, if it was a standard.

If the truck was an automatic from factory there will be a clutch linkage block-off plate on the firewall. There will be a boot there for the linkage if it was a manual.
