Throttle cable question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a K20 with a 350 Edelbrock 1406 carb and Edelbrock performer manifold. I swapped from a 69 to a 71 cab so the throttle linkage is cable rather than rods and I don't know what it is supposed to look like. I bought a 4X4 throttle cable and it seems to be about 2 inches too long. Also the cable seems designed to go into a round hole, not square like my bracket seems to be for. Has anyone else had this problem ? A picture would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i converted mine over to cable but you have the cab already set up so you wont have to make the mods that i did. but you might want to check out the SPECTRE throttle bracket. i think its universal, just a suggestion, not sure if itll work

Bernie,

The 4x4 cable will be shorter than the 2wd cable because of the fact that the engine is mounted futher back.

The cable exits the cab, then the big round thing near the end of the cable goes through a bracket which mounts to the back drivers side carb stud. That's it. The bracket itself is available as aftermarket, or you could probably find one used someplace.

I'm not sure how the throttle rod attached to the carb at the throttle end itself, but I'm guessing you'll need to make a change there as well. The 71-72 style cable will have a spring clip that pops over a little ball-stud.

Thanks for the replies. I have the SPECTRE bracket. I'll try again tonight. I must be missing something as far as the routeing of the cable goes. I have the 4X4 cable (I know because I origonally bought the 2WD

Bernie, the 4X4 cables do seem a little long, but that is how they are from the factory. I believe this is to allow for movement of the engine without it pulling on the cable. We have replaced many of them here and they have all been the same. As for the bracket that bolts down to the driver's side rear of the carburetor, I would check around the wrecking yards if you can't get your aftermarket one to work. I used an aftermarket bracket for the one in my Blazer and it was tough to get it installed, but I was able to do it. I just used a large set of channel locks to press it in.
