Re: WTB: 71-72 rear differential
Hmmm, you know if you change housings to reuse the 72 axles you will have to have some one set up the gears, you can not just swap the center section without checking pinion depth and backlash, would also require new crush sleeve and seals.
The best option is to get some 5 lug axles from Moser engineering that will fit the 68 rear housing. they will run you about 250.00 then sell the 72 axles

Re: WTB: 71-72 rear differential
Let me know if you want to sell the 72 axles. They should work in my 70 rear end.

Re: WTB: 71-72 rear differential
you're looking for 30 1/2" long from the mounting flange to the end of the splines (early rear end) The later ones are 31 5/16" long from this same measurement.
I agree, I'd do the early setup, you can run less backspacing too (your wheels will appear wider) Your early housing is highly desirable too, especially on the bagged trucks simply because it's a bit narrower. Your 71-72 5lug axles will be an easy sale.

Re: WTB: 71-72 rear differential
I found the early 30.5" 5 lug axles from my differential parts supplier in Dallas for under $150 each. Yahoo.....
