steering overhaul
I've needed to replace my gear box for a while now, just added fluid for the time being. I put in a cheap PS pump last year to get me by when that went out. Today the PS pump pulley started squealing. I'm hoping to make it to the weekend before I have to do anything.
As far as parts & what to do, I'm looking for recommendations. Here's what I plan/hope to replace; gear box PS pump PS pulley rag joint (same as coupling?) PS lines if I can find them Any parts recommendations would be appreciated. I'll order from rockauto if I can get them here in time, if not I'll hit O'Reilly's. Other than the pump, I haven't dug into this stuff before. How difficult is the box & coupling?

Re: steering overhaul
It should all be pretty easy, Greg. You may need a pitman arm puller for the box, but the rest is bolt on stuff. If it is on the Blazer, all local stuff should be fine. On the '87, you might look into a faster ratio box. I have heard good stuff about Redhead boxes, for a custom one. The rag joint is held to the box with a through bolt. P/S hoses should be able to be had locally as well, the pressure hose being formed and the return being plain hose.

Re: steering overhaul
If you look at it as a few hours, it will take all day. Honestly, it shouldn't be too bad, especially with everything new going back on.
5K posts only took 10 years. Good thing I don't have much to say..... |

Re: steering overhaul
LOL, I've got less than half your with an extra 3 years to work on it. I suppose I'm guilty of taking multi-year breaks from the site a couple times though.
