help! coolant not circulating????

On pa-inlaws 69 w/350 temp gauge was pegging out he didn't think the truck was really getting that hot so he replaced the sending unit thought that it was fixed but after a couple short drives realized it was running hot so replaced the thermostat still not fixed hot water in upper hose cool water bottom hose so thought radiator was stopping up, he said let's go ahead replace it with an aluminum one, put it in still running hot?? It had an edelbrock water pump so thought maybe it was no good replaced it with new pump still doesn't circulate??? What could cause there to be blockage?? By the way could not get the bottom hose (old one or new one) to not leak at the water pump even with 2 clamps. Any help would be appreciated

Radiator rusted out and plugged up? Lower hose collapsed or kinked?

Re: help! coolant not circulating????

is it the correct pump and not a reverse flow? also i have seen the impellers come loose on the shafts(not very common)

test the thermastat(or take it out and run it)

do a flush of the system(you would be amazed at what can come out of a cooling system)

belt slipping?

try a differnt guage

did you "burp" the system? it probally shouldve did it its self after a short ride.

in some cases a leaky head gasket can/will make it run hot, but you would notice bubbles in the rad

Re: help! coolant not circulating????

Haven't flushed the system yet, belts are tight and put on new water pump boiled thermostat on water is opening plus I can feel the hot water leaving the engine in the top hose so the thermostat is opening. What happens with the blown head gasket not noticing any pressure in the cooling system or water in the oil??
