performance suggestions

I have a 2003 6.0 out of a 2003 SS Silverado and a 4L80E trans. Any performance suggestions I should do prior to installing it. The engine has 80K on it and the trans has 107K on it. Think I should have em freshened up a little prior to install or just get it on the road for now? I know I wont be the fastest so not worried about big HP #'s jsut would like a good sounding engine with 350-400hp in my 59' This engine is supposed to be 345 so the hp isnt bad just not sure if I should put a thumper cam or something in it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: performance suggestions

4l80e's are pretty stout, and unless there is some obvious mechanical defect, I'd leave it alone for a "driver". Might not be a bad idea to get a better stall convertor (suited to your needs and the cam you choose) just to get a little more performance out of whats there.

With 80k on the engine (again assuming there are no obvious mechanical problems), I'd just put a new oil pump and timing chain kit on it, do whatever cam you wanted, and you'll need a new set of exhaust manifolds since the truck manifolds don't fit between the rails and motor mounts on these older trucks. That will be enough to get you on the road safely and pretty reliably.

Re: performance suggestions

These motors like a cam change. Get that and a good tune and you will be set.

Re: performance suggestions

Yes, they use an LS2 block which has a bit more compression paired with LS6 heads and LS6 cam. Not to mention a better intake and throttle body.

Mid 220 to 230 duration cam, valve springs matched for cam lift , hardned pushrods. Circle-d budget 278mm 4l80e converter.Should get you around 375rwhp with a good tune.
