307 not 350 at my C10 69 1/2 ton.

I always thought that my truck engine was 350, until today that will lead to the machine shop to rectify, and tell me that it is a 307. I would like to read your opinions if continuing with the project to repair the 307 or change it by a 350.

I would like to modify slightly the engine, I have an edelbrock intake, and I would like to tell me that could do with the heads, pistons and the camshaft, or which of them would be sufficient. I do not prettend have a racing truck but if you have some more power would be great.

Not that you can't make good power with a 307, but you get more bang for your buck with a 4" bore block (327, 350, 383, etc). If I ever have to pull mine, its not going back in.

Re: 307 not 350 at my C10 69 1/2 ton.

I rebuilt a 307 using an RV cam (makes low end tq/decent hwy mileage),1.94 valve heads, and a 4bbl Holley spread bore on stock manifold. The CFM was 450. I had it in a K/20 4spd w/4.57 gears and 14.50/37 tires. It got 13 mpg and had plenty of power. The best thing about a 307 is it will outlast a 350. More could be done than I did. I was looking for am engine with respectable power that would use less fuel...just like people need today.

I rebuilt my 307 stock with a 2 barrel and headers with flow masters. Not only does it sound great but I get 17 / 18 mpg every week !

You can't get that out of a 350

I love a 307

A long time ago I tried to punch up a 307 with a cam, manifold, carb and headers, and all it did was get louder.

For a good DD, that will live a long life... you can't beat a 307. If you're looking to make power out of a Smallie... go with a 350 or a 400.

That'll happen with any motor if you don't get the right combination. You can even hurt performance. A 307 from '70 has HP that rivals the 454 that came in a SS454 truck, just for a little perspective. No,those weren't break your neck powerhouses, but you catch my drift. A 307 isn't as anemic as some seem to think.

I'll second that. Go drive a late 80s 305 IROC Camaro with Tuned-Port. Same exact bottom end as a 305 in a Caprice. If you have a chance to drive both cars it will make a fuel injection believer out of anyone.
