Electric fans?

I'm sure some of you are running electric fans. I would like to put one in mine for the old I6. I'm getting a new/used radiator cuz I'm cheap. I can get one with a fan already on it or buy one that could fit the whole radiator. So how did you guys do it? Cuz I'm also wondering how it would work with the temp sensor or just turn it on manually?

I used one from a Jeep grand Cherokee and it fit the stock shroud for 57 shipped on ebay. Works great.

Re: Electric fans?

I got a dual speed Dual fan out of a Lincoln Continental, at the junkyard $50 then you just have to build a controller and relays for it. and build a custom frame to mount it to the radiator. Total less than $200 in parts, and a couple of hours labor

I used this kit. The article is the install procedures and I tried to find the actual kit on CPP. I can't recall which one it was, but it fits perfect for around $300.

Re: Electric fans?

Wes,
In that wiring diagram I don't see where the thermostat recieves a signal to trigger operation. Is there a sender of some sort not mentioned?

Re: Electric fans?

Yeah, the kit from CPP now comes with a 205 degree block unit. I had to research it when I did mine. Mine came out of a, I believe, '85 Camaro. It also had one fan running constantly and the other kicked in at 205 degrees, but I wired them in series so they would both kick on at 205 degrees. I didnt see the purpose of burning out one fan and using the energy. It works good.

Re: Electric fans?

I run dual 14" fans with temp sensor. Drove in a parade Friday in the upper 80s with my a/c on the whole time and temp gauge never got above half way.

Re: Electric fans?

If its overheating electric fans won't really help. A clutch fan would do the same thing as an electric but will be a lot more reliable. A shroud would work wonders too.

Cool Re: Electric fans?

I have the clutch fan with shroud in my 71. I also picked up a 18" electric out of a mini van. Dual speed. I have it hooked to the A/C switch behind the controller so when I have the AC on it ingages the relay to the fan. No added switches and no need for a thermastast.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
