1983 C10 California Smog Help

I have an '83 C10 Silverado (305) I've been building the past month or so. I was required to go to a Star Certified smog station before I could register it.

I took it last Sat. and it passed the emissions portion, but failed the visual. The smog tech said that the hoses were connected incorrectly and some of the smog equipment is missing.

I've been looking at the California emissions diagram for this vehicle so I can correct this problem. Most of the stuff is there. I did notice that I don't have an EGR bleed solenoid. I can't seem to find one online for square body trucks. Does anybody with an '83 or similar year post a photo of what this solenoid looks like? I may hit the local pick your part, but I have no idea what it looks like.

Does anybody know if the exhaust manifold from a similar year El Camino with a 305 is the same?

Re: 1983 C10 California Smog Help

Welcome to the site. I removed a 305 out of my 83. Post a pic. I'll see what is missing or routed incorrectly. Post pictures without the air cleaner in place.

Does it have a charcol canister?

It does have a charcoal canister. The passenger side exhaust manifold doesn't have the duct for the bottom of the air cleaner, so I need to find a new exhaust manifold. The EGR is missing the bleed solenoid, so it is currently routed directly to the TVS. I don't know if the hoses that are going to the smog pump are correct. The electric purge solenoid is hooked up incorrectly. The hoses routing to the deceleration valve are wrong. I'm sure there is a lot more that is incorrect.

Have you been to the pick a part in Ontario?

They usual have quite a few in your years to which you can play around with, and see what is there. For me this is sometimes easier as it is 3 dimensional, and I can touch it.

I had to do it once because I got a 84 rcsb off a idiot who removed all the smog equipment, and couldn't get it registered. So I just bought the whole smogger motor, took a ton of notes, pictures, and slowly swapped it over.

I've never been to the one in Ontario. The biggest one near my house is in Wilmington. They had a couple '87 Suburbans there the last time I was there. I plan on going tomorrow after work. If I can't find what I need, maybe I'll try the one in Ontario over the weekend.

I've been looking at the emissions routing diagram and comparing all of the hoses to mine. I still don't know what the EGR bleed solenoid looks like.

Can somebody show me a picture of their EGR Bleed Solenoid I have circled in red? I can't seem to find one since I don't know what it looks like.

What is the SEC VAC BREAK that is circled in the middle next to the carb?

Also, the EFE TVS, mine only has two ports. The one pictured looks like it has three. I looked online and the only one available for California emissions is a two port. They have a three port, but it's not threaded, so it won't work.

On the TVS for the EFE, there are only two ports, however, there's a "Y" that allows you to hook two vacuum lines up to one port. I'll try to get a few pics.

I'm looking for a part number for the actual TVS. Mine is thrashed and it's time for a smog check. 0.o
